Alfonso I. “Poncho” Casso is a 7th-generation Laredoan and the son of Yvonne Diaz Casso and the late Alfonso I. Casso. He brings local elected experience, statewide financial oversight, and direct work on U.S.-Mexico border policy.
Experience that reaches beyond City Hall
Served on the Laredo City Council during a major capital improvements era.
Elected Mayor Pro Tem by his City Council colleagues.
Led the Local Government Empowerment Task Force and later managed financial reviews of city and county governments.
Served as Border Affairs Coordinator on issues spanning Brownsville, Laredo, and El Paso.
Represented the Governor and advised leaders on cross-border issues affecting Texas-Mexico relations.
